Science Club 

The Science Club (SciClub) aims to promote scientific curiosity and to create an inclusive environment where all registered students can participate in fun, science-focused events.

Please Note: Although students may register for SciClub throughout the year, some events have already taken place and are no longer available to newly enrolled students. Please check the meeting/event list below before enrolling. Reminder there will be no refunds now that the program has begun.

Cost

• $20 - covers general activities and supplies
• Financial assistance may be available; please contact your student's school counselor. 
• Refunds - The last day to request a refund is September 29.

Club Events & Details: 

All activities are open to registered SciClub members.

• Monthly Club Meetings (Wednesdays 12:50-1:50pm)
  Each meeting will feature hands-on projects in science, technology, and engineering. 
  Meeting Dates: Oct 22, Nov 19, Dec 17, Jan 21, Feb 18, Mar 18
• Sep 30: Science Bowl Night 6-8pm, TMS Commons
  A fun, low-pressure introduction to the Science Bowl format. Students will practice in teams and learn how the competition works. Questions will be related to Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth and Space and Mathematics.
• Oct 1: National Science Bowl Teams Tryouts 12:45-1:45pm, TMS Commons
  Teams are formed through a ranking test administered by a TMS science teacher. The highest-ranking students in each subject area are selected to form the teams. The top two teams will represent TMS at Regionals in January/February in Portland, Oregon. A third team may also qualify, depending on available spots. (If there are not enough spots, the host organization typically holds a lottery to determine which additional team may advance.)
  
  All teams can compete in a local tournament hosted by Redmond High School in Oct/Nov.
  
  Each team will be assigned a volunteer coach, usually a parent from the team. Teams will practice regularly with their coach and are also expected to study independently.

• Feb TBD: F=MA Physics Exam (exact date TBD)  
  A national physics competition focusing on mechanics. Participating students will need to pay an additional $15 fee per student. Registration will take place in Dec/Jan. 
• Apr 28: Science & Technology Fair
  Students showcase scientific investigations, experiments, and creative technology projects. Other STEM-related groups (ex: Robotics, highschool science clubs, community members, etc) will be invited to participate.

Volunteers Needed

This program will rely on strong volunteer support. The number of volunteers needed will depend on the event. Without sufficient volunteers, some events may be canceled.  A volunteer sign-up link for each event will be sent to all registered families. 

• Volunteers must be LWSD-approved. Approval status lasts two years | LWSD Volunteer Application
